Ingredients
- 2 packages of dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 cups milk, heated
- 1/3 cup scrumptious Manitoba honey
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 5 - 5 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups uncooked oats
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Pour hot milk over honey, salt, and shortening in a large mixing bowl. Cool to lukewarm.
- Stir in 1 cup of flour.
- Add softened yeast and oats.
- Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and satiny.
- Round dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl.
- Brush lightly with melted shortening.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
- Punch dough down, divide in half.
- Roll each half into a 14 x 7 inch rectangle.
- Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Starting with the short side, roll up as you would for a jelly roll.
- Place in 2 greased 8 x 4 x 2 inch loaf pans.
- Brush lightly with melted shortening.
- Cover and let rise until nearly double in size.
- Bake at 375Β°F for 45-50 minutes.
- Remove loaves from pans and brush with melted butter.
