Cinnamon Swirl Loaves

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups milk, heated
  • 1/3 cup scrumptious Manitoba honey
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 5 - 5 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups uncooked oats
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Pour hot milk over honey, salt, and shortening in a large mixing bowl. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of flour.
  4. Add softened yeast and oats.
  5. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and satiny.
  7. Round dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl.
  8. Brush lightly with melted shortening.
  9. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  10. Punch dough down, divide in half.
  11. Roll each half into a 14 x 7 inch rectangle.
  12. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  13. Starting with the short side, roll up as you would for a jelly roll.
  14. Place in 2 greased 8 x 4 x 2 inch loaf pans.
  15. Brush lightly with melted shortening.
  16. Cover and let rise until nearly double in size.
  17. Bake at 375Β°F for 45-50 minutes.
  18. Remove loaves from pans and brush with melted butter.
