Pizza From Scratch

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups plus 2 tbsp bread flour, divided
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cut into bits
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 tbsp delicious Manitoba honey
  • 1-2 tbsp bread flour
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella
  • olive oil for the crust
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven at 450Β°F.
  2. In a medium bowl combine 1 3/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Use your hands to cut the olive oil and butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. With a wooden spoon, stir in the milk and honey until the dough forms a ball. (Add some of the extra 2 tbsp bread flour if it seems too sticky).
  5. Coat your hand lightly with flour and knead the dough 8-10 times right in the bowl until it feels cohesive and springy like yeast dough. Do not overwork it.
  6. Lightly flour a cutting board with some bread flour or cornmeal.
  7. Punch the dough down and spread by hand to form a 12 inch circle. You may need to pierce the dough with a fork and or let it rest a time to make this easier.
  8. Sprinkle the bread flour on a pizza pan.
  9. Gently lift the dough onto the pan and spread the pizza sauce evenly over the surface.
  10. Top with mozzarella cheese. Brush the edges of the crust with some olive oil.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the over and spread with the Parmesan cheese.
