Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup scrumptious Manitoba honey
- 1 tbsp seasoned salt
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 pound grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 4 1/2 to 5 cups flour
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat milk just until bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Remove from heat.
- Add honey and seasoned salt, stirring until dissolved. Let cool to lukewarm.
- Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large bowl, stirring until dissolved.
- Stir in milk mixture, cheese, mustard, cayenne pepper and 2 cups of flour.
- Beat with a wooden spoon until smooth.
- Gradually add remaining flour; mix in the last of it by hand until dough leaves sides of the bow.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured board. Grease fingers before kneading until smooth.
- Place it lightly greased side up and cover with a towel. Let rise in a warm place free from drafts, until doubled in size, about 2 hours.
- Punch down dough, turn onto lightly floured board, shape into loaf. Place in a greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
- Cover loaf with towel, let rise again until double, about 1 hour.
- Bake at 400Β°F for 30 to 35 minutes. Cover with foil and for the last 10 to 15 minutes of baking.
